Moon Palace, also known as the Guanghan Palace(广寒宫）, is a legendary place in Chinese mythology, located on the moon. It is inhabited by Chang'e(嫦娥）, the moon goddess. Originally, Chang'e was the wife of the archer Hou Yi. After stealing and consuming an elixir of immortality given by the Queen Mother of the West, Chang'e ascended to the moon and took residence in Moon Palace. Her only companions there are a jade rabbit and Wu Gang, who eternally chops down a self-healing laurel tree. Chang'e's life in the Moon Palace is marked by solitude, as she gazes longingly at Earth, missing her life and loved ones. This story conveys deep sentiments of longing for familial bonds and the human desire for immortality, while also symbolizing the purity and loneliness of the moon.
